Flake colors
How to Choose a Flake Color for Your Garage Floor
Updated October 2026 · Clean Floor Coatings, Little River, SC
Quick answer
Pick a flake blend for how the floor will be used first and how it looks second. Mid tone blends that mix light and dark chips hide sand, dust and tire marks best, very light floors show dirt, and very dark floors show dust, salt spots and pollen and get hotter in the sun. Clean Floor Coatings offers Torginol flake blends, including the 15 below, plus custom blends matched to your car or your team, and Phil can talk through them at the estimate.

Start with what the floor has to hide
- Sand and dust. A busy, multi color blend in a mid tone hides it between sweeps.
- Tire marks. They show most on light, plain floors. A blend with darker chips hides them.
- Salt and water spots. They dry white and show most on very dark floors.
- Pollen. Every spring the Grand Strand turns yellow. Mid tones and warm blends hide it better than near black or near white.
The blends
| Torginol line | Blends |
|---|---|
| Signature | Gravel, Orbit, Outback, Wombat, Domino, Nightfall, Tidal Wave, Creekbed, Cabin Fever |
| Brownstone | Trailmix |
| Marble | Pumice, Obsidian, Basalt, Garnet, Schist |
A small swatch reads differently from a full floor. Look at the blend over a larger area, in daylight, before you decide.
Light or dark?
A lighter floor makes a garage brighter, because it bounces light back up, and that helps in a garage you work in. It also stays cooler in direct sun, which matters most on a patio or pool deck. A darker floor looks rich and hides scuffs, but it shows every bit of dust and runs hot where the sun hits it.
For most garages, a blend in the middle with a mix of chip colors is the easiest floor to live with.
Match the house, not just the garage
With the door open, the garage floor is part of what the street sees. Look at the garage door, the trim and the brick or siding, and pick a blend that sits well with them. If you are in a new home, pick it when you pick your other finishes. See new build garage floor coating.
Custom blends
If none of the standard blends fit, a custom blend can be matched to your car or your team colors. Bring it up at the estimate.

Frequently asked questions
Will the color fade or yellow in the sun?
The flake is UV stable and it is sealed under a UV stable polyaspartic top coat that is made to stay clear, so a floor that gets afternoon sun holds its color. See epoxy vs polyaspartic.
Does a lighter floor make the garage brighter?
Yes. A light floor reflects more of the overhead light, which makes a real difference in a garage you work in.
Can I get a floor in my team's colors?
Yes. Custom blends can be matched to a team or to your car.
Does the color change the price?
Phil gives you one exact price at the estimate, and it includes the blend you pick. If you want a custom blend, ask him whether it changes the number.
